Ensuring that Party self-governance is exercised fully and strictly is a journey to which there is no end. The future of a political party or a government is determined by whether it enjoys public support. We must guard against and correct with resolve the practices the people oppose and resent.
As the world’s largest political party, the CPC must behave in a way commensurate with its status. History makes it abundantly clear that our Party is equally capable of leading the people to spearhead a great social revolution and engaging in significant self-reform. We, as its members, must always be youthful in spirit, and forever be the servant of the people, the vanguard of the times, and the backbone of our nation.
In times of success, it is not easy to guard against potential dangers and maintain the hard-working and motivated spirit our Party had in the early days of the PRC, or to remain modest and frugal and stay true to our original aspiration after coming into power. Neither is it easy to exercise strict discipline on officials and prevent and fight corruption in times of peace, nor to follow the tide of the times and respond to the wishes of the people at junctures of significant change. To remain as the vanguard and the backbone of the nation, and a Marxist ruling party, our Party must always hold itself to the highest standards.
We must take out "tigers" whenever we see them and swat the "flies" that buzz around. We should combat corruption in whatever form and address even the slightest signs. "Tigers" and "flies" — major and minor corruption cases — are both to be brought under investigation.
Ensuring our officials do not dare to be, are not able to be, and do not want to be corrupt, is the fundamental guideline for battling corruption, and also a major strategy for strengthening Party self-governance in the new era.
